ABOUT THE BIKE

RENT A BIKE, OR FLY WITH YOUR BIKE?

TO RENT OR NOT TO RENT?

Some mountain bikers going to Gran Canaria choose to rent a bike, mainly for peace of mind reasons. You do not have to dismount the bike, pack it well and then reassemble it once at destination. Renting a bike also offers you the perfect opportunity to try something new.

On the other hand, if you opt for rent a bike, you will find yourself riding something unfamiliar, which may take some time to get used to. But above all, how cool is it to ride new and unknown trails with your beloved bike?

Airlines generally charge about € 45-70 each route to transport bikes. Please verify this information with the company you will fly with.

RENT BIKES
We relay on a local rental partner with premium quality bikes. If you are interested in renting a bike, please communicate it in the contact form. We can make you find the bike ready for you on the day of the tour, without having to take care of anything.

HOW TO TRANSPORT MY BIKE?

If you’re about to fly with your mountain bike for the first time, a question you’re probably asking is “What solution should I take to transport my bike?

Basically there are 2 options:

  • Rigid or semi-rigid bag
  • Cardboard box for bike transport

Rigid or semi-rigid bag

The padding in a semi-rigid case generally does a good job in protecting the bike inside. A semi-rigid Evoc travel bag costs around € 400. For around € 200 you can buy the Pro Chain Reaction Cycles on Chainreactioncycles. It is a decent product (the rating is 4.1 / 5) that we use regularly with satisfaction.

Cardboard box for bike transport

The alternative to the bike transport bag is to opt for a cardboard bicycle box, which you can easily find from your local shop. These are the boxes that bicycle companies use to ship their bikes. Normally you can get one of these boxes completely free and, with adequate internal padding, your bike can be sufficiently protected. A good cardboard bicycle box weighs half compared to a semi-rigid bike case.

The weight limit for the bikes in the hold of the aircraft is generally 30Kg. Please verify this information with the company you will fly with.
