What is the best time to go to Gran Canaria?
Short answer: from the beginning of December to the end of April.
Now let me explain to you the definition I give to the term “best” in this context.
The strengths of this island are the beautiful weather and the poor rains all year round. This island is therefore particularly enjoyable, especially for those living in northern Europe, during the year when the climatic differences are more marked. For north Europe we talk about the period November – June.
In this period, in fact, the temperatures are very mild and, despite being winter, you can enjoy the beach and swim in the sea without problems. As the year progresses, temperatures rise. However, they remain pleasant until June, although the difference with the other European countries is becoming less marked.
The same is also applicable to the bicycle. In fact, in the period December – April, temperatures are really perfect for cycling (in shorts and short-sleeved shirt).
LANGUAGE, MONEY, DOCUMENTS, HEALTH

Gran Canaria is part of Spain, so the official language is Spanish. However, being a place with a very high number of tourists, English is widespread.

What documents do I need to go to Gran Canaria? Do I need a passport?
To go to Gran Canaria, the I.D. is sufficient. The important thing is that it has not expired. If you also have a passport, consider taking it, so that if you lose your identity card, you still have a document that allows you to return to come back home.
Do I need an international driving license to drive a car in Gran Canaria?
Absolutely not, just your driving license. What is important is that it is valid.
In case of health problems, am I covered by the health of my country?
It depends. Let’s see better in detail. In general, the tourist who is in Gran Canaria for vacation, in case of health problems that need a medical examination (for example high fever, gastro-intestinal problems, intoxication, muscle or joint pains, etc.), can go to the emergency room, as you would do in your country. All you need is the national health card of your country, so that the medical staff intervene, then overturning the cost of the intervention to the health of your country.
If emergency medical assistance is needed, or even worse a repatriation, things get very complicated and the tourist is called upon to cover these costs himself. For this reason, those who go abroad for sports, as in the case of mountain biking, should activate a sports travel insurance, which covers them completely from accidents of a certain seriousness. In addition to other events that may occur during a trip, such as cancellation of travel, luggage or sports equipment theft, etc. We treated this topic in depth and indicated which insurance to contact on this page..

What kind of bicycle is recommended for riding Gran Canaria?
The ideal bike to have fun in Gran Canaria is a long travel enduro or all-mountain with modern geometries (open steering angle, long wheelbase). Of course you can also have fun with less extreme bikes, but considering that we use the Bike Shuttle service, you can make some concessions to the strength of the components and the frame at the expense of weight. A bike on 14-14.5 kg is fine. The XC and DH bikes are not recommended.
Can I rent a bike? If so, how much does it cost?
Yes. You can rent mountain bikes on site. Our technical rental partner has different types of bicycles available, with components of a fairly high level. We recommend enduro bikes or all-mountain bikes with 29 “wheels. Latest generation e-bikes are also available for those who want to try this type of bike. Specialized and Cannondale are some of the brands available.
Do I need special equipment, such as a full-face helmet or protections?
Yes, you must equip yourself to tackle challenging paths.
HELMET: it is mandatory, even if it is not necessary to be integral. The enduro helmet with detachable face protection is recommended. More ventilated and light than the full-face helmet, but more protective than the classic open helmet. We do not recommend the full-face helmet, because despite being winter, temperatures can reach even considerable rates.
KNEEPADS: highly recommended, but soft type, such as enduro, which allow you to pedal well and give a decent protection.
ELBOW: if you are used to them and they give you a sense of safety, then take them. Better the soft enduro models, because in case you want to remove them they do not clutter much in the backpack.
ARMOUR AND BACK PROTECTOR: there are no mandatory indications for these protections. In theory, the more you are protected and the better. However, consider that the weight of a armour and the thermal effect that it causes when worn can greatly reduce comfort and increase tiredness, in places with temperatures above 20-25 degrees.
